Handyman’s Fees Waived For Seniors
Aging Care Connections steps up to cover fees for Township seniors while funding lasts
Proviso Township is pleased to announce that Aging Care Connections is covering the five-dollar gas surcharge and cost of any parts, if needed, for seniors who take advantage of the Township’s Handyman Program making an already affordable service virtually free.
“I’m so grateful for the community support and collaboration that we have with the social service agencies in our township,” said Proviso Township Supervisor Michael Corrigan. “So much of good, effective government is about the partnerships that are cultivated for the benefit of the residents and it’s clear that our partnership with Aging Care Connections is a strong one.”
From May to September of this year, over 1,200 seniors were served through the Handyman Program. Those seniors saved thousands of dollars collectively because of the funding provided by Aging Care Connections. Handyman services typically cost seniors five dollars, plus the cost of any parts being replaced, however, because of the support from Aging Care Connections, that cost is currently being waived while funding lasts.
The Proviso Township Handyman Program is for seniors age 60 and over or any person with a disability of any age who own a home in Proviso Township. The program provides basic repair services for things like leaky faucets, light switches, or even just changing a light bulb. If a job requires more specialized service, the Township provides referrals to specialists who have been vetted.
“Our older adults helped build the communities we enjoy today," said Aging Care Connections Executive Director Desiree Scully. "They spent their lives caring for families, serving neighbors, and strengthening our communities. Now it's our turn to ensure they have the support they need to age with dignity and independence."
Seniors interested in the Proviso Township Handyman service need to complete a brief intake form before scheduling an appointment. The form can be found on the Handyman's web page, under the “Register Online Now” section or you can call and register over the phone, 708-547-4001.

Proviso Township Overview
Founded in 1850 as Taylor Township, after US President General Zachary Taylor, and later renamed Proviso Township after the Wilmont Proviso, a piece of legislation that was proposed to stop the spread of slavery into the gained territory from Mexico. Empowered by our rich history we are the proud home of 14 villages: Bellwood, Berkeley, Broadview, Brookfield, Forest Park, Hillside, La Grange Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, North Riverside, Stone Park, Westchester and Western Springs with now approximately 145,000 residents. The township looks to empower individuals and families by providing a wide range of services that enhance their lives.
We also collaborate with local community organizations that protect the health, safety, and general welfare of all township residents. With 79 staff members we help with property tax appeals and exemptions, we have dedicated staff that help the youth and children of our community with different services, and additionally we ensure that our senior citizens have access to reliable transportation, a handyman program and a series of engaging programming and assistance. Please stop by and visit our main office and get to know your township staff.
